February Birthstone
There are several varieties of this beautiful quartz stone. Found in its purest form, it is colorless, however it is most prized for its purple and golden varieties. In Roman times, the purple variety, Amethyst was considered a talisman to ward off the intoxicating powers of Bacchus. The golden variety of this stone, Citrine, was deemed a gift from the sun gods and was thought a powerful antidote to the viper's venom.
Amethyst is the traditional birthstone for the month of February, Citrine is the alternate birthstone for November. Both stones are available in small and large sizes, as well as in a wide variety of color hues. As with all gemstones, though, very large sizes in rich, deep colors have always been rare. Amethyst is an ideal choice for an addition to your jewelry wardrobe. Sullivan's Jewelers has a wide variety of affordable Amethyst jewelry for you to choose from, ranging in all sizes, from light to dark purple, or exotic to sublime stylings.
Citrine is the most affordable of the earth-tone gemstones and is considered a perfect accent piece to any outfit or occasion.
A beautiful blending of these two varieties, Amethyst and Citrine, are found in the gemstone Ametrine. Sullivan's Jewelers looks forward to showing you the delicate nuances found in all three of these exciting gemstones.
